Alleged fentanyl dealer first charged in Phoenix-area under new state law

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Prosecutors have announced the first person to be charged under a new Arizona state law that strengthens penalties for those who knowingly sell fentanyl that causes another person’s death.

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office announced Monday that Cruzita Leon is believed to be the first person to face the “sale of lethal fentanyl” law after Leon allegedly sold fentanyl to Todd Gordon, who died after being found unresponsive at his Mesa home late last year.

According to officials, Mesa police found text messages between Leon and Gordon to arrange a drug deal in November 2024…
