In Phoenix, Arizona, two dogs are back home after having spent four long days lost in the desert. Talk about loyalty however, – neither dog ever left each other’s side.
Spike and Snickers escaped from their home earlier in the week and ran off into the nearby woods. Their owner, Kathleen Paulson Wesley was so worried about the dogs and started posting on social media asking for help finding them. She made and shared posters and volunteers from the community searched for the dogs.
And then came a spark of hope. Over the weekend, a hiker named Steve had been out with friends and spotted the two dogs. Luckily, Steve had a rescue harness with him and hiked about a half mile with Spike on his back until more help arrived.
According to the Facebook post for Daisy Mountain Fire & Rescue, firefighters from Station 143 received word about Snickers and Spike who had been found by a kind hiker about 1.5 miles from the trailhead on the Black Canyon City Trail. The crew assisted with bringing the dogs to safety and back with their family.
And talk about loyal dogs? Spike and Snickers never left each other’s side. When rescued, both dogs were in pretty good shape – maybe a bit tired after their misadventures. Spike, who is 11-years-old and weighs about 100 pounds has been slower to recover than his best friend Snickers.
Kathleen wanted to make sure everyone knows how grateful she is:…
