Man breaks knife while killing girlfriend’s father in their north Phoenix home, police say

A family dispute led to one man violently stabbing and killing another in their shared residence in north Phoenix, according to court records.

Arresting documents obtained by The Republic revealed that Daniel Kohls, 38, stabbed his girlfriend’s father, 73-year-old Jack Olsen, multiple times May 2. Kohls claimed he did so because of how Olsen treated his daughter.

According to the documents, Kohls planned to break Olsen’s neck and attempted to do so when he came home from work but was unsuccessful. He then grabbed a knife and stabbed Olsen until the knife broke. Kohls got a second knife from the kitchen and stabbed Olsen several more times…
