Arcadia Little League surprises beloved umpire with big check

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — A beloved little league umpire in the Valley is getting a big thank you for his hard work and dedication. Eric Newman has been calling games for the Arcadia Little League for nearly 20 years.

Newman used to be a professional athlete. “I tore my hamstring six inches. I tore my groin 4 (inches). So, 10 inches on one leg,” he said.

That injury forced him off the field as a football player for the Atlanta Falcons, but Newman found new meaning on the diamond here in Arizona. “It gives me a type of energy that, that’s hard to explain,” Newman said…
