SR 87 reopens south of Chandler after head-on crash

GILBERT, Ariz. — A stretch of State Route 87 southeast of the Valley that was closed due to a head-on crash has reopened, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The crash happened on SR 87 near milepost 155 south of Chandler on the Gila River Indian Community. The highway was closed southbound at Gilbert Road and northbound at the SR 187 junction, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. It was closed for about six hours before reopening at about 9:15 p.m. on Friday.

Officials with the Department of Public Safety said this crash might involve a death, but no other details have been released…
