PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A man is facing a murder charge after police said he killed a woman while fighting with her boyfriend near the riverbed in south Phoenix on Saturday.
According to court documents, 53-year-old William Herron Washington confronted the 35-year-old Stephanie Barr’s boyfriend around 7:30 p.m. at the Rio Salado Habitat Restoration area, which is near Central Avenue and University Drive, claiming he had stolen his bicycle wheels. Washington later told police the man pulled out a knife and Barr picked up a bike chain during the argument. Washington said he had his own knife and approached the man.
Washington said Barr punched him in the mouth with a chain in her hand and he kept going after the man, court documents said. That’s when Barr stepped between them, and William told police he thought Barr was going to swing the chain at him again, so he stabbed her with his knife, investigators said. But he also said he stabbed her to get her out of the way to get after her boyfriend…
