Dan Butler appointed Mesa police chief

Executive Assistant Chief Dan Butler has been appointed as the new chief of police for the Mesa Police Department, effective July 1.

Butler, a 25-year veteran of the Mesa Police Department, will succeed Chief Ken Cost, who announced his retirement after more than 30 years of distinguished service, according to a release.

“Dan Butler represents the very best of the Mesa Police Department. His 25 years of service, comprehensive operational experience and proven leadership make him the ideal choice to build upon Chief Cost’s remarkable legacy. Dan has been instrumental in our department’s recent achievements and possesses the vision and expertise to guide us through our next phase of growth and innovation,” Mesa City Manager Scott Butler said in the release…
