Tempe to allow meals for homeless in parks – for now

After a meet and confer ordered by U.S. District Court on June 6, City of Tempe officials agreed not to require its special-events permit for meals for the homeless in city parks.

The agreement was made in exchange for Ron Tapscott, Austin Davis and Jane Parker, who conducted charitable food-sharing activities without a permit, dropping a request for a preliminary injunction against the city.

The action is effective while Tempe recrafts its parks permitting rules and the injunction request might be refiled, based on any change in its rules…
