APS requests rate increases in Arizona to cover costs for smart grid tech, improved reliability

Phoenix-based Arizona Public Service (APS) filed an application June 13 with the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) to update its rates to cover ongoing operations and to support the state’s growth and future energy demands.

“Reliability isn’t optional — it’s essential, especially in Arizona,” said Ted Geisler, APS president and CEO. “We must ensure the power is there when our customers need it most, and we thank them for trusting us with their energy needs. That is what this rate case and proposed adjustment are about.”

APS said that the new rates are not expected to go into effect until the second half of 2026, and noted that current rates have not kept pace with what it costs to operate a grid that provides reliable, resilient energy…
