PHOENIX, AZ (AZFamily) — Crews have found the body of a man who fell into a West Valley canal while fishing early Tuesday afternoon.
Around 12:30 p.m., Phoenix and Glendale fire crews were called to a canal near 51st Avenue and Cactus Road after a fisherman reportedly fell in, went under and had not resurfaced. Family members told first responders they tried to help but could not reach him.
At around 4:15 p.m., fire officials said the operation had transitioned from a rescue to a body recovery. About four hours later, Phoenix police confirmed they had found his body. His name has not been released. It’s unclear how he fell into the water.
