PHOENIX (AZFamily) — It was the hottest day of the year on Thursday, with the gauge at Phoenix Sky Harbor hitting 117 degrees around 3:30 p.m. That is 12 degrees above the average for this time of year, but under the record of 118 degrees set in 2017. Phoenix hasn’t seen a 117-degree day since Sept. 28.
Our First Alert Weather Days for extreme heat continue on Friday through 8 p.m., as daytime highs will still stay near 110 degrees. Winds should start to pick up across the state on Friday as that ridge of high pressure starts to push east of the area. These winds and very dry conditions will elevate the fire risk across the higher elevation areas of south-central Arizona Friday and Saturday.
