PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Sunday, Monday and Tuesday are all First Alert Weather Days as we continue to deal with the extreme heat.
An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through Tuesday evening for much of central and southern Arizona, as well as the lower elevations of the Grand Canyon. We’re looking at a high temperature of 117 degrees on Monday in Phoenix. We have hit 117 degrees once before this year, back on June 19. The record for Monday is 115 degrees, set back in 2013, and Tuesday’s record is also 115 degrees, set back in 1990. Tuesday, Phoenix will be around 114, and then we’re tracking cooler temperatures heading into the holiday!
An increase in monsoonal moisture will bring shower and thunderstorm chances to the state, mainly from Tuesday to Thursday, with the best chances occurring in the higher terrain and southern Arizona. However, storms that do develop could create some outflows into the lower deserts, which could kick up the wind and bring in isolated thunderstorm chances…
