SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — A new dress code policy in the Scottsdale Unified School District is sparking controversy. Some parents in the district are upset about what it bans and who it applies to. Students must now wear tops that fully cover the stomach; crop tops are not allowed.
Most parents agree they believe there should be some form of a dress code. But because this change is the only change to the policy, Angela Sherrill, a mom in the district, says it potentially unfairly targets female students and implies that their bodies are inherently distracting.
“I don’t have an issue with it. I don’t think a lot of parents have an issue with it,” said Sherrill on students wearing crop tops. “Most of the time it’s going to be a female wearing a crop top or a midriff.”…
