Miami sits just inches above sea level, making it ground zero for America’s climate crisis. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration projects that Miami could experience over 30 days of sunny-day flooding annually by 2025, up from the current 8-10 days. King tides already force residents to wade through ankle-deep water on Biscayne Boulevard during high tide cycles. The city’s aging infrastructure wasn’t designed for this constant water intrusion, and real estate values in flood-prone neighborhoods have begun dropping faster than a stone in water. Hurricane season brings additional terror, with Category 4 storms becoming the new normal rather than rare exceptions.
