Waymo lets teens ride solo in Phoenix

Phoenix on Tuesday became the first market in the U.S. to offer Waymo teen accounts.

Why it matters: Some parents may be hesitant to put their teen in a ride-share driven by a stranger, which can make it difficult to find transportation for teens who don’t drive themselves.

  • Waymo noted the U.S. Centers for Disease Control estimates that teen drivers have the highest accident rates, and drivers under age 20 have a fatal crash rate three times higher than older drivers.
