Nearly two years after the administration recommended their return, the Phoenix City Council last week approved spending $12 million to bring photo enforcement cameras back to city streets.
The contract with Verra Mobility that Council approved in a 7-1 vote — with Councilman Tom Waring not voting and Councilwoman Anna Hernandez voting against — includes three mobile photo radar vehicles, red-light cameras at 10 intersections with the most frequent serious crashes and three radar towers that can be moved around to different areas in the city where speeding is a problem.
The contract extends through next March 31 and has four one-year renewal options…
