PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A tanker truck driver was allegedly under the influence of drugs and alcohol while leading Department of Public Safety troopers on a chase across the Valley last week.
On the Fourth of July around 1 p.m., troopers received numerous 911 calls about a tanker truck that was driving all over the road, nearly hitting other vehicles and spilling water from its tank. Court documents say the driver, 29-year-old Juan Magdaleno, also collided with the on-ramp barrier wall on the Loop 202 near Alma School Road.
Troopers caught up with Magdaleno and attempted to pull him over on I-10 near 16th Street, but he continued driving. Troopers attempted to deploy spike strips to slow him down, but he evaded them.
The tanker experienced a mechanical malfunction, causing Magdaleno to stop on I-10 near the Loop 303 interchange. He got out and began “drinking water and throwing up,” while ignoring troopers, according to authorities. He was then taken into custody.
