Fatal Shooting Involving Gilbert Police Under Independent Investigation

The Gilbert Police Department recently released a detailed briefing about an officer-involved shooting that occurred on June 11 in Gilbert. According to the briefing found on the city’s official website, the incident began with a call to the police about a man slumped over the steering wheel in his vehicle. The subsequent welfare check quickly escalated to an armed confrontation, leaving 24-year-old Jacob Alan Rose dead.

After receiving the initial 911 call, Gilbert Police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Lindsay and Guadalupe Roads. Upon arrival, they quickly located Rose’s vehicle and began efforts to secure the scene. Officers attempted to wake Rose, who was unconscious at the time, but the situation escalated when he allegedly armed himself with a rifle and aimed it at them. In response, officers took immediate action to address what they perceived as a serious and imminent threat.

The East Valley Critical Incident Response Team (EVCIRT) is now investigating the circumstances of the shooting.
