Scottsdale may offer refuge to Salt River Horses as State looks to thin herd

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — The state of Arizona is pushing to thin the herd of wild horses along the Salt River.

The Arizona Department of Agriculture hires a third party to manage the horses. Right now, they are reviewing applicants to possibly replace the current group. They are also adding new regulations to this new contract.

“That would be terrible because they are just so beautiful. I’d be heartbroken if the state did that,” said Kelly Mager, who was out on the river with her friends and family this Tuesday. “We love seeing the wild horses, we look for them the whole way.”…
