Maricopa County health inspectors cited one metro Phoenix restaurant for four health violations during the week of July 14. Violations included touching tortillas with bare hands, defective dishwashers and plumbing issues.
A priority violation is a major infraction that directly contributes to an increased risk of foodborne illness or injury. If listed in inspection reports, remedies implemented during the inspection are noted.
During the week of July 14, inspectors visited more than 1,350 restaurants and other food-serving facilities in hospitals, senior homes and schools. About 400 restaurants received an “A” rating. See a sampling of the “A”-rated restaurants at the bottom of this article.
4 priority violations
Bootleggers, 7217 E. 1st St., Scottsdale
- A server used their bare hands to place tortillas on customer plates. The tortillas were thrown away, and the server washed their hands and put on gloves. Staff were reminded that ready-to-eat foods should never be touched with bare hands.
- Neither the bar nor the kitchen dishwashers were dispensing any sanitizer. Despite running several cycles, no sanitizer was detected. Until the machines are fixed, staff must wash dishes by hand. The machines had to be repaired by July 18.
- The sanitizer system was using water from a valve connected to a handwashing sink, which is not allowed. It needs its own dedicated water line.
- Pipes from the dishwashers were draining directly into the floor, which creates a contamination risk. Pipes must be raised above the drain opening.
