Extreme heat lingers across Arizona; monsoon may bring relief

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Extreme Heat Warning for south-central and southwest Arizona has now been extended through Wednesday evening, with temperatures expected to be around 109-113 on Wednesday.

The good news is temperatures will come down as we head into the end of the week and return to more seasonal temperatures. Highs will be around 102-105 Friday through the weekend. Any showers or storms that develop today are expected to remain in eastern Arizona along the Rim and southeastern Arizona.

While there isn’t a ton of moisture in the lower deserts for this activity to develop, we will watch for an outflow this evening. By the middle of the week, the ridge of high pressure will move near the Four Corners, with increasing moisture allowing for shower and thunderstorm chances, including the Valley, with chances around 30% on Thursday and 50% on Friday. Friday will be a First Alert Day because this is the best chance for most of the Valley to see measurable rain…
