Maricopa County health inspectors cited three metro Phoenix restaurants for 12 health violations during the week of July 28. Violations included sewage backup, expired foods, and warm veggies and dairy products.
A priority violation is a major violation that directly contributes to an increased risk of foodborne illness or injury. If listed in inspection reports, remedies implemented during the inspection are noted.
During the week of July 28, inspectors visited nearly 1,350 restaurants and other food-serving facilities in hospitals, senior homes and schools. About 400 restaurants received an “A” rating. See a sampling of the “A”-rated restaurants at the bottom of this article.
4 priority violations
Jobot, 333 E. Roosevelt St., Phoenix
- Raw shelled eggs were found stored above produce, cheese and bread, which can cause contamination. They were moved to the correct storage location during the inspection.
- Butter was left out at 67 degrees for ease of use, and bloody mary mix was stored at 51 degrees in a cooler that wasn’t keeping food cold enough. The butter was moved to the fridge, and the mix was thrown away.
- Cooked rice and house-made ranch were stored past the seven-day limit and discarded. Cold brew coffee in a keg had no date marking. Staff was reminded that such items must be labeled and removed from packaging within 48 hours.
- A sewage backup was found in the mop sink. A repair order was placed, and the issue must be fixed within 24 hours to ensure wastewater drains properly.
Sorimmara, 1939 E. Baseline Road, Gilbert
- An employee washed hands for less than the required 20 seconds but was retrained and corrected on the spot.
- An employee handled dirty dishes, then clean dishes without washing hands. The employee was instructed to wash hands, and did so immediately.
- Sauce with mayo and sweetened condensed milk was stored under 45 degrees, and raw chicken was at 45-46 degrees, which is too warm. The sauce was moved to a walk-in cooler, and the chicken was thrown out.
