Former police commander says Tempe used sensitive resources to track homeless people, advocates

A former Tempe police commander is alleging that its city manager used police resources to track people who are unhoused, as well as two community advocates. His attorney sent a letter to the Arizona Department of Public Safety earlier this month, asking the agency to investigate.

Austin Davis is the director of AZ Hugs, a local nonprofit, and one of the targeted advocates.

“Just the abuse of power as well is really frightening,” Davis said. “If elected officials — or in this case, non-elected officials like the city manager — can access an FBI database that is used to track terrorists?”…
