Phoenix Police Release Details of Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting Near 20th Street and Southern Avenue

The Phoenix Police Department has disclosed details of an officer-involved shooting that occurred on the night of August 31, in an area close to 20th Street and Southern Avenue, as per a Critical Incident Briefing (CIB) video that includes potentially unsettling footage and strong language.

A man riding a bicycle without a headlight prompted an interaction with patrol officers, leading to his pursuit after he refused to stop and subsequently evaded on foot, as reported by the City of Phoenix. Upon catching up with the individual, officers engaged in a struggle to arrest him, interrupted by a fatal decision as he brandished a knife during the altercation. As one officer drew their weapon, their partner stepped aside just before the officer discharged their firearm, fatally wounding the man.

First responders administered immediate medical assistance until the Phoenix Fire Department transported the man to a hospital. Unfortunately, his injuries proved fatal. There were no other reported injuries resulting from the incident, as detailed by the City of Phoenix.
