The quietude of a Guadalupe bus stop was shattered by violence last month, as a man’s life ended in a stabbing, now leading to a suspect’s arrest for first-degree murder, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. 65-year-old victim Amalio Castillo-Villareal was discovered deceased behind the bus shelter located near Avenida del Yaqui and Calle Guadalupe on September 11, with injuries indicative of stab wounds as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix.
Following an investigation, Sheriff’s deputies have apprehended 36-year-old Roman Rubalcava, almost a month after the incident and nearly one month after the stabbing took place, surveillance footage led to his identification and eventual capture on October 7th, the suspect had previously encountered deputies, appearing under the influence of meth according to court documents, he was also seen on a convenience store’s security camera making movements that indicated intoxication and he was observed in another video leaning over and striking someone repeatedly on the ground near the bus stop. The Sheriff’s Office detailed Rubalcava’s arrest, which entailed the tactical deployment of a K9 unit when the suspect resisted commands during a September 18 search of his home, as conveyed by AZ Family.
Investigators found not only Castillo-Villareal’s missing bicycle but also bloodstained clothing at Rubalcava’s residence; subsequent DNA analysis matched the blood to the victi,m indeed linking Rubalcava to the crime. However, when authorities first attempted to arrest him after these discoveries, he was not located at his home.
