Vehicle swept away in Weekes Wash, driver rescued by police

A Chandler man’s vehicle was swept into Weekes Wash Monday due to fast-moving water and he was rescued by Apache Junction police.At approximately 8:38 p.m. Oct. 13, the Apache Junction Police Department received a 911 call reporting that a vehicle had been swept into Weekes Wash near Fourth Avenue and Tomahawk Road due to fast-moving water, police said.

Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle and made contact with the driver, a 59-year-old male from Chandler. Officers instructed the driver to remain inside the vehicle for his safety.

Using a rope from a patrol vehicle, officers threw one end to the driver. After securing the rope, one of the officers entered the wash, reached the vehicle and safely assisted the driver out, police said…
