Doctors warn against playing in Phoenix area’s standing floodwater

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Medical professionals are urging Valley residents to avoid swimming or playing in standing water that has accumulated after recent heavy rainfall.

They are warning that contaminated floodwater poses serious health risks. Despite the tempting sight of swimming or kayaking in temporary lakes and ponds formed throughout neighborhoods, doctors say the water may contain dangerous contaminants that can cause illness.
