Ahwatukee man fights for his life

From the time he was a student at Desert Vista High School over a decade ago, Nathan Cole was hailed as a leader.

Indeed, after he became the school’s first cadet to lead Tempe Union High School District’s JROTC program, he told local journalist Cathy Creno: “I like being a leader. I like being at the center of the action. I can’t stand being on the sidelines.”

Now 31 and the married father of two young children, Cole is leading an international fight for his life, racing against a clock where the odds aren’t very encouraging…
