A handful of employers in Arizona announced mass layoffs in October, though some will likely come back once the government shutdown ends.
Nationally, Amazon announced that it would cut 14,000 corporate jobs around the country, but did not file any notices specific to Arizona.
Amazon executives cited artificial intelligence usage and the goal of reducing bureaucracy and layers within the company’s corporate structure as motive for the layoffs. Amazon has corporate offices in downtown Tempe near Mill Avenue and Rio Salado Parkway, and in west Tempe near Priest Drive and Southern Avenue.
