TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — A man accused in a series of rapes in the East Valley has been indicted on new charges after two more victims came forward with similar allegations.
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office announced on Thursday that Alex Bangash, 24, was indicted on seven new counts that include kidnapping, sex assault, and aggravated assault.
Prosecutors also said he faces separate charges for removing his ankle monitor and leaving the state after Arizona’s Family reported in April about a manhunt that led authorities to find Bangash in rural Texas. He had allegedly fled the state after a court-approved bond reduction.
“My office argued for him to continue to be held in custody without bond due to the violent nature of the crimes and the danger to the community,” County Attorney Rachel Mitchell explained in a news conference on Thursday. “Instead, he was granted $250,000 and $75,000 cash-only bonds with electronic monitoring for the two cases.”…
