Former Phoenix pastor killed in his wheelchair during daily routine

Those driving past the busy intersection of Seventh and Missouri avenues in central Phoenix were familiar with the bespectacled, bearded man who traveled in his motorized wheelchair to nearby shops.

Abby Loar said neighbors and friends’ parents would mention spotting her father, Rodger Loar, in between the daily dining stops the 53-year-old man often made. After leaving his favorite burger joint and heading home on the afternoon of Dec. 1, Rodger Loar was westbound on the southern side of Missouri Avenue when his life was ended, his daughter said.

Getting out helped him reclaim his independence after a debilitating stroke. “That was his routine,” Abby Loar said, and “that’s unfortunately how he got killed.”…
