Phoenix proposes ban on volunteer medical aid to homeless in parks

Phoenix leaders will consider banning people from providing medical treatment and needles to the homeless at city parks.

Unless they have the city’s permission, individuals and groups won’t be allowed to host events that are designed to offer medical care for the unhoused. They also can’t distribute sterile syringes and other products meant to help those suffering from substance abuse problems.

Life-saving medication, like Naloxone, however, is exempt from the proposed restrictions, as are people giving aid to relatives, according to a draft of the ordinance…
