In Maricopa County, Zachery Shropshire, born in May 1989, was sentenced to 45 years in prison for a violent attack on a Phoenix construction crew that resulted in the death of a worker. The sentence was announced by Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell. The attack occurred more than a year ago.
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office reported that on March 10, 2022, Shropshire left his apartment armed with a high-powered rifle and a .45 Glock handgun and opened fire. Construction worker Alvaro Quezada was initially struck in the leg, leaving him helpless on the ground before Shropshire ruthlessly fired multiple rounds into him, resulting in his death. Seven others, including members of the construction crew and nearby residents, were either injured by shrapnel or narrowly avoided being shot. Shropshire fired approximately 24 rounds before attempting to flee the scene.
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office reported that after causing a car crash about a mile from the scene and abandoning his vehicle, Shropshire continued fleeing on foot. Phoenix police quickly located him in a nearby alley, ending the threat. In October, a jury found Shropshire guilty of one count of second-degree murder, seven counts of aggravated assault, two counts of disorderly conduct, and one count of leaving the scene of an accident involving damage to an unattended vehicle…
