‘He’s a legend:’ Customers mourn Scottsdale convenience store owner killed in freak drive-thru accident

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The lights are off at the Milk Depot, and the parking lot sits empty — an unusual sight for the south Scottsdale convenience store that has buzzed with activity for more than 40 years.

Dennis “Denny” Thornton, 80, the store’s longtime owner, was closing up on Dec. 7 when he was struck by a car in the drive-thru. He died at the hospital days later.

Scottsdale police said their investigation is closed and the driver will not face any criminal charges. It was a tragic accident…
