Chandler Police respond to explosion, find homemade device

Chandler Police had to deal with both an explosion and an unexploded device in the early morning hours of Dec. 18.

At about 12:30 a.m., Chandler Police officers responded to reports of a loud explosion near the Price frontage road and West Calle Del Norte, according to a news release. Upon arrival, officers located a suspicious item believed to be a homemade explosive near an area where concrete had been damaged.

Detectives collected evidence related to the incident and conducted a thorough search of the surrounding area for any additional devices, the report states. No injuries were mentioned. Chandler’s Threat Mitigation Unit has completed an initial investigation and does not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public at this time, the statement reads. The Mesa Police Department assisted Chandler Police in investigating; no arrests were made and the incident remains under investigation.
