An armed robbery at a Mesa Circle K in April has led to a nearly decade-long prison sentence. The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office reports that Cameron Davis, born in March 1991, was handed 9.5 years for threatening a store employee with a knife during the heist. According to the official statement released by County Attorney Rachel Mitchell, Davis entered the Circle K and proceeded to steal merchandise while holding an employee at knifepoint.
The harrowing experience for the victim began when he was working solo and confronted Davis for taking cigarettes. Davis responded by threatening to stab the employee if he didn’t retreat. As per court records, Davis then ordered the worker to a corner to continue pilfering goods, and subsequently fled on his bike. This wasn’t a silent crime—Davis had been reportedly boasting about the event, a braggadocio that would ultimately help detectives to pin down his identity.
Sleuthing intensified when the victim stumbled upon the name “Cameron” linked to the crime, and with the help of surveillance footage, the dots were connected, leading right to Davis. By early June, detectives were closing in.
