The Phoenix Fire Department shared some fireworks safety tips ahead of the New Year’s holiday.
The use of some fireworks is legal in Arizona from Dec. 26 through Jan. 4. Generally, legal fireworks are ones that stay on or near the ground while fireworks that launch into the air are illegal.
Permissible Use
- Sparklers (Ground and Wire Stick)
- Smoke Devices
- Spinners & Fountains (Includes Ground Spinners & Sparkling Wheels)
Prohibited Use
- Rockets & Aerial Fireworks (Sky rockets, bottle rockets, aerial shells)
- Explosive devices
- Anything that rises into the air and explodes is prohibited
Keep spectators at a safe distance
Data shows fireworks related injuries where Phoenix Fire responded to treat a patient were a result of someone standing too close or being hit with a firework as it went off.
