Falcon Field neighbors in Mesa rail at flight schools

August Palmisano says he’s lived at the Red Mountain Ranch neighborhood for the past 27 years and loves it there.

But a growing problem from the sky is affecting his quality of life in northeast Mesa, he said.

“We have a health and safety issue that has got considerably worse,” Palmisano recently told Mesa City Council at a meeting this month. “You may be aware of the dramatic increase in flight traffic at Falcon Field, primarily from at least 15 flight schools that now operate out of there.”

The City of Mesa owns and operates Falcon Field, a former World War II pilot training base. It is a general aviation reliever airport that serves various uses, including for business, recreation and fixed-wing and helicopter flight training…
