Mesa business survived COVID by relocating

Frank Perla was an over-the-road truck driver. His wife, Carlotta, was a singer by trade. Both left their careers for the food industry and opened a food truck 12 years ago.

They opened a full-service restaurant, Old School Grub, in the Superstition Springs Mall before COVID hit.

“It was a 6,000-square-foot place between Dillard’s and TJ Maxx,” explained Carlotta. “Everything seemed to be going OK through COVID. But then prices went up. Our rent tripled. We were forced to close the doors. We spent a year looking for our new location.”

The couple finally found a new home at 6810 E. Main St. near Power Road, and renamed their restaurant OSG…
