It has been almost a year following an event at Mesa High School where investigators say Principal Kirk Thomas and Athletic Director David Klecka failed to report an incident involving a firearm on campus.
The incident involved two students in an altercation during a soccer game at the campus. One student reported seeing a gun to Thomas and Klecka. Neither called Mesa Police to report the incident.
The school board on Jan. 12 voted 4-1 to not renew either Klecka or Thomas’s contract with member Sharon Benson dissenting on both votes. Both Thomas and Klecka are on paid administrative leave until further notice, and their contract will not expire until June 30, 2026…
