Zipps employee recounts how he got fake documents for work

One of the Zipps Sports Grill employees facing federal charges related to using fraudulent documents to land a job had no criminal history nor any previous contact with immigration authorities, according to testimony his lawyer gave at a brief Jan. 30 hearing.

Edwin Flores-Rosales, clad in an orange jumpsuit, answered briefly in Spanish as the judge asked him if he wanted to waive his right to a preliminary hearing, one of the initial steps towards trial.

Flores-Rosales was accused of making the false attestation that he was a United States citizen on the federal I-9 employment form he signed to get a job at the south Tempe location of Zipps Sports Grill…
