Caught on Camera: Wrong-Way Driver on US-60 in Mesa

MESA, Ariz., Jan. 31, 2026 (KNN) – Just before 2 a.m. Saturday, the Arizona Department of Public Safety received reports of a vehicle traveling the wrong way from the Gilbert Road exit on the US-60. The car traveled westbound in the eastbound lanes at a high speed, forcing other drivers to swerve to avoid collisions. Other vehicles attempted to alert the driver by flashing their high beams.

The vehicle exited the Loop 101 transition ramp incorrectly, driving southbound in the northbound lanes from US-60. A trooper positioned on Loop 101 near Guadalupe Road used their patrol vehicle to block the wrong-way driver, attempting to prevent a collision with other motorists. The driver subsequently collided with the DPS Tahoe.

Troopers took the driver into custody and moved the involved vehicles to the shoulder. The driver was administered a field sobriety test before being handcuffed and placed into a patrol vehicle.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene to evaluate the driver for injuries sustained from the collision with the DPS vehicle. The driver ultimately declined transport to the hospital…
