AGourmet (A is the owner’s first initial) Fine Sandwiches shop in Surprise had been on my to-try list for some time. When a reader wrote to me to “highly recommend it,” it was the nudge I needed to make the trip out to the West Valley.
Squeezed between a swim school and a pet shop in suburban Surprise, the restaurant’s open door welcomed me inside, where text on the wall read: “Our sandwiches are just like charcuterie on bread.” After tasting them, I’d argue they are better.
Husband-and-wife team Adrian and Carmen Moisoiu, originally from Romania, opened their sandwich shop in June 2024 because they’d been living in Surprise since 2005 and “our daughter was born there and most restaurants here were chains,” Adrian said. “People (should not) have to drive to Scottsdale to get good food.” He’s right…
