Woman indicted in shooting of 4-year-old boy in south Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A woman has been indicted for allegedly shooting a young boy in the face during a fight at a south Phoenix home earlier this year.

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced Monday that a grand jury indicted Joanna Cortez, 29, on a charge of aggravated assault against children, among other related charges.

The shooting happened Jan. 6 at the Somo Lofts near 32nd Street and Broadway Road after Cortez and her boyfriend reportedly broke up, and she went to his home, threatening to “shoot up the house.”

Home security video showed the woman yelling outside the home with a rifle in hand before firing it toward the home. The bullet hit a child, identified by the family as 4-year-old Qahsiem Sinclair, through the open door in the face…
