Librarian files claim against Mesa over peanut-sniffing dog ban

A city librarian wants $4,000 in damages from Mesa after her peanut-sniffing dog was banned from her job at the Dobson Ranch Branch.

Attorney Joshua Black, who filed the claim on behalf of Joni Scofield, did not respond to questions.

The claim says Scofield has worked for Mesa Public Library for over 4.5 years and suffers “from severe anaphylactic allergies to peanuts, sesame seeds and mustard.”

Scofield ends up being hospitalized yearly from workplace exposure, including from “undetected residues on library books, patrons carrying peanuts despite posted ‘No Peanut’ signs and program snacks passed out by the library containing peanut flour,” the claim said…
