Arizona lawmakers propose indoor temperature protections for renters

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Arizona renters could soon get new protections when struggling with broken air conditioning in summer heat or heating failures during winter cold snaps.

On Thursday, state Sen. Lauren Kuby and Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes introduced Senate Bill 1608 that they say would protect vulnerable tenants from Arizona’s extreme weather.

The law would amend Arizona’s Residential Landlord and Tenant Act to codify the protections across the state and expand on rental ordinances already in place in major cities like Phoenix and Tucson…
