1 dead, 1 seriously hurt after wrong-way crash on Tempe-area freeway

TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — One person is dead, and another is in the hospital after a wrong-way crash on an East Valley freeway early Sunday morning.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says the collision happened on the westbound US 60 collector distributor lanes from the SR 143, as it parallels Interstate 10.

Around 1:15 a.m., troopers initially received calls of a wrong-way driver going northbound in the southbound lanes of the SR 143 near Broadway Road. Shortly after, troopers received reports of the head-on crash on the collector distributor lanes involving the wrong-way driver.

One person was pronounced dead, and another was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, according to authorities…
