Loop 303 widening project will start this weekend

PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation is expected to start work this weekend on a widening project along the Loop 303 freeway in north Phoenix.

On Feb. 21, ADOT crews will begin preparations on a project to add more travel lanes along the freeway west of Interstate 17 and the following traffic restrictions will be implemented:

  • Interstate 17 will be narrowed to two or three lanes in either direction in areas between Dixileta Drive and Dove Valley Road from 2 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, to 2 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 22.
  • Southbound Interstate 17 on-ramp at Dove Valley Road and southbound off-ramp at Loop 303/Sonoran Desert Drive will be closed from 2 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21.
  • Northbound Interstate 17 off-ramp at Loop 303/Sonoran Desert Drive will be closed from 1 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 22.

The improvements to Loop 303 are projected to accommodate growing traffic demands in this region of the Valley.

The $129 million project is being funded through the Proposition 479 half-cent tax approved by voters. Construction is expected to take about two and a half years to complete…
