DEA task force members shot at during undercover drug buy

EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) – Two men are in police custody after an undercover drug buy ended in shots fired at law enforcement officers in Arizona.

The shooting took place in the parking lot of a discount store in west Phoenix where a Drug Enforcement Administration informant was expecting delivery of 50,000 fentanyl pills from a suspect.

The pills and a “sample” of fentanyl powder were to be the precursor of a larger drug buy involving 150,000 of the synthetic opioid pills and up to a kilo of powder, according to documents filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona.

The suspect identified as Eduardo Valenzuela Lopez showed up driving a red Dodge Ram 1500 pickup to the meeting location on North 67th Avenue on Tuesday. He allegedly showed the informant a bag with fentanyl pills. At that point, investigators wearing the word “Police” on their vests approached the vehicle and turned on flashing lights on their own vehicles…
