Mesa Driver Dies In 100-MPH Fireball Near SR 87

An early morning commute through Mesa turned grim on Monday after a single-vehicle crash near State Route 87 and Baseline Road erupted into flames and left one person dead, authorities said. Troopers arrived to find the car burned out and the driver unresponsive. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and has not yet been publicly identified. The wreck tied up traffic for morning drivers as multiple agencies moved in to secure evidence and gradually reopen the lanes.
